Together with the city of Esch-Alzette, the other ten Luxembourg municipalities of the Pro-Sud association and the eight French municipalities of the CCPHVA, Esch2022 was the European Capital of Culture in 2022. Esch2022 was held under the motto Remix Culture. All themes were developed and implemented in close cooperation with the municipalities, ministries and other partners. Esch2022 is currently still managed by the association Capitale européenne de la culture 2022 asbl. In 2022, two other cities in Europe held this title: Kaunas in Lithuania and Novi Sad in Serbia.
